Makayla is our super community Doula. Born and raised in Wood Buffalo she knows all the ins and outs of our region. Having grown up amongst our diverse culture, she is a woman with many friends and is thankful for the deep respect and understanding this has instilled in her. Makayla was well immersed in First Nations culture growing up and considers it to be a big part of her life – and the shaping of how she treats others. Makayla also worked at an Islamic school and overall just has a sincere appreciation for culture and diversity.
Makayla has made a beautiful family of her own in Wood Buffalo. Her husband Shane and her two daughters, Eden & Isis, are the light of her life. She is a dedicated Mom with experience in high risk pregnancy and breast/bottle feeding. Makayla’s first pregnancy and birth experience with Eden was a difficult one. When she became pregnant with Isis, she decided to seek out more support for her second birth. It was the hiring of a doula that set Makayla on her true path to support women. She found the healing, strength and confidence that was gained from having the strong support of a doula. Her passion is aimed at supporting mother and partner, after having seen the difference a doula can make with her own husband and helping him be strong and confident in his role. She found that her husband could play a far more valuable role in pregnancy and birth, emphasizing the importance of being informed so that parent’s know that the decisions they make are the perfect decisions for them.
When she is not taking on new prenatal and birth clients, Makayla can easily be found running the local “Fort McMurray Babywearing” group or can be seen hosting local Motorsport events, which is a non-profit her and her husband run and volunteer their time towards.
Makayla is an incredible addition to pregnancy, birth and beyond. Get in touch with her to make a time to meet and see for yourself!
